Hark & Zander embraces numerous ethical practices and is dedicated to continuous improvement in this area. The brand is working towards B-Corp certification, which includes policies against child and forced labor. Their formulas are made in a local laboratory in Auckland, New Zealand and they source some recyclable packaging from China while also supporting New Zealand businesses for other packaging needs. Additionally, their products are vegan and cruelty-free.
Hark & Zander is transitioning from individual use cardboard boxes to reusable packaging, such as linen drawstring bags, to reduce waste. They prioritise using glass, aluminum and cardboard over plastic whenever possible, ensuring that any plastic used is recyclable. Additionally, they source natural fiber labels, pack products in brown, recyclable shipping boxes and use 100% recyclable or home compostable bags. Hark & Zander also utilises organically grown Hempseed oil, which benefits both people and the planet by promoting soil regeneration and requiring minimal water compared to other crops. They also incorporate upcycled ingredients to minimise waste.
Hark & Zander has partnered with GoGenerosity to facilitate charitable donations, currently supporting Look Good Feel Better for cancer patients and survivors. They have donated $25,000 worth of products to charities in Aotearoa, including Everlasting Recycling, Women’s Refuge and Woven Earth. They have also twice partnered with Everlasting Recycling to provide products to women in need and support Christmas Box in supplying food essentials to thousands of people annually. Additionally, Hark & Zander supports Breast Cancer Cure through product donations for fundraising events.

Hark Zander’s bright white MiracleFirm Smoothing Serum carries a creamy, light feel. It is quick to absorb with a lemony- eucalyptus scent. It glides on easily and is easy to layer with other products. Packaging is minimal but still looks expensive. Hark Zander is obviously putting a lot of thought and care into their social and environmental responsibility – by pursuing B Corp certification and especially by stepping up to challenge the narrative around single-use cardboard packaging, by offering ‘naked’ glass bottles with a drawstring bag.
