The brand selected Carl Zeiss Vision as its lens supplier due to strict ethical standards and for minimizing water usage in production. Their sunglasses are designed to protect the eyes and be environmentally friendly.
Sustainable
Good Citizens Eyewear prides itself on sustainable practices, having dismissed the supposedly sustainable options of bio-acetate and ocean plastic due to issues with biodegradation and brittleness respectively. Instead, the brand utilises 100% recycled plastic, resulting in a range of frames that use up to 75% less CO2 in production and have a modular design that facilitates repair and end-of-life recycling. Good Citizens Eyewear also offers a free take-back service for broken parts, manufacturing onshore to reduce fuel miles and contributes to plastic waste removal and carbon offsetting with each pair sold.
Responsible
Good Citizens Eyewear produces glasses with a focus on recycling and reducing plastic waste. Each pair sold contributes to the removal of plastic waste through a partnership with Plastic Bank. Customers receive unique citizen numbers and become part of a growing community of Good Citizens who spread the recycling message. The brand is also committed to education, giving talks to corporates and teaching at Australian design and fashion universities. Two of the founders are aged 12 and 10, providing a unique perspective on the world and the business. The brand aims to support the next generation of thinkers.
