Solmates Australia focuses on ethical practices in their supply chain, working with Australian or verified overseas suppliers and using sustainable materials. Their Solmates applicators are made with recycled ocean-bound plastic from a verified supplier in Malaysia and manufactured in Sydney, Australia. They recently switched from teflon to POM for their roller balls, as it is easier to recycle. Their packaging is sourced from Australian companies, made from 100% recycled materials and printed with soy-based ink, to reduce waste and environmental impact.
The Solmates Refillable Sunscreen Applicator was created as a sustainable solution to combat the global issue of plastic waste. It replaces single-use plastic bottles with a refillable option and is made from certified Ocean Bound Plastic, reusing existing plastic waste. The brand also partners with Plastic Bank to fund the clean-up of plastic waste in the environment. In addition, Solmates Australia operates in a sustainable manner by using 100% recycled and recyclable packaging, plant-based inks and compostable stickers, as well as returning offcuts and rejects back into their manufacturing process. They have a consumer Takeback Program to recycle old products, use a local manufacturer to reduce their carbon footprint and partner with Greenfleet Australia to offset their carbon emissions. Their shipping partners for Australian deliveries are also carbon neutral.
Solmates focuses on social responsibility through long-term commitments to key partners such as Plastic Bank and Greenfleet Australia. Since December 2021, they have supported Plastic Bank in enabling the collection of ocean-bound plastic and empowering collection communities, as well as funded Greenfleet Australia to offset carbon emissions and protect the climate through restoring native forests. Additionally, Solmates engages with local communities, youth sporting clubs and small charities, promoting messages around plastic waste and environmental conservation through media and event participation.

Wow! I’ve not really seen anything like the Solmates sunscreen applicator and I wish I’d known about this one sooner! What a great product, I love that it is reusable and you can pop your own sunscreen in when it needs a top up. The colour is great as it doesn’t get easily lost in a bag and the silicone strap attached to the applicator makes it easy to attach to your bag or pram. The roller ball is amazing and helps to distribute the sunscreen evenly on the skin for easier application. I am so impressed that they have used ocean bound plastic to create such an amazing product! This product is also Australian made and owned which I love as this gives many locals employment opportunities.

I like the design of the solmate, it’s easy to carry around, easy to apply sunscreen and easy to refill. I liked the product’s plastic free packaging and that the company has donated to plastic-free causes. The Solmates Refillable Sunscreen Applicator is perfect for helping kids apply sunscreen. My son has already claimed it as his, as the roller ball applicator is his preferred sunscreen application method. I love that you can choose your own sunscreen to put inside. I also love that the applicator reduces the need for the small single use sunscreen bottles and that the applicator is made in Australia.
